1/28/2018 Academic Sister Of The Semester!
At the end of each semester we like to recognize the hard work and dedication of sisters that go above and beyond in their pursuit of academic excellence. These sisters are chosen based off their high regard for their school work and a drive to show an example for how we should all study! With the highest GPA of the house for Fall 2017 our Academic Sister Of The Semester is Erica Wu!!! Erica is a Zoology/Pre-Med major in her senior year. She holds the position of Philanthropy Chair for the academic year of 2017-2018 and she hopes to become a working pediatrician. We asked Erica some questions for you all to get to know her and her career pursuits a little better! What are some of the hardest things you have faced academically and how did you overcome them? "One of the hardest things that I have faced academically is trying to balance out school, extracurricular activities, and free time. I consider my major pretty tough and having to dedicate at least 30+ hours is already a lot of time being taken away (trust me, I barely had any free time). I’ve also have a tendency to stress and procrastinate A LOT, which is never the best idea. To overcome them, I learned how to better manage my time and prioritize what’s most important and go down the list from there! By the way, I think hanging out with friends and family is a total stress-reliever! " What motivates you to do so well in your academic career? "Medical school is definitely competitive and without my family, boyfriend, sorority sisters, and friends motivating me to do well in school, I don’t know how I would survive college. " Is there a role model that has helped you through your academic career? If so who are they and what have they, or the idea of them, done to motivate you? "My parents are definitely one of my role models. Coming to the states as immigrants with little to no money and now succeeding in their business is truly amazing. They started working at the age of 14 and haven’t stopped since then. They’re one of the hardest workers I know and I can’t thank them enough for supporting me and my siblings." "As cheesy as it sounds, I think my boyfriend is one of my role models, as well. He’s been there since the beginning of my freshmen year. Despite being annoying, he’s very smart and creative. He knows when I’m stressed and offers a lot of advice to keep me sane! " What is your favorite aspect or aspects about college in general? What makes them so great? "I think being independent is one of my favorite aspects of college. I thought it would be fairly hard living 5,000 miles away from my family, but throughout the years, I really, really enjoyed it. One thing I liked about independence is that I don’t have a curfew (my parents always nagged me about coming home really early). I learned how to somewhat cook, learned how to apply for housing, pay bills, buy groceries, etc. Being independent definitely teaches you how to support yourself and learning how to make your own choices. " What advice would you give to an incoming freshman in order to make their first academic year at WSU the best it could be? "Play hard, but worker harder! As easy as it is to procrastinate and cram, don’t! It’s really hard to pick yourself up from where you left off. Still have fun to de-stress, but know how to manage your time!" Thank you for your hard work and setting an amazing example for our sisters and everyone in our community! Keep it up Erica! 1/10/2018 Spring 2018 Eta Class Rush What is rush? In its simplest form rush is a way for you to get to know us sisters and for us sisters to get to know you. We have events for a week that are geared toward bonding and us getting to know each other in the most entertaining way possible! Don't worry, there are no fees or requirements to attend our rush other than having a fun time. Our theme for this Spring 2018 semester rush is "I came, I saw, I captured". There is no better way to get to know our sisterhood than to come to our rush week and capture your own memories that will last a lifetime. Should you come? Absolutely! Our organization was founded to support all self identifying women thrive in their education, career and life. If you are interested in extending your personal and professional connections and skills, as well as joining a family and support system, then our Eta rush is for you! Even if you don't know if you are interested yet this is a great way for you to expand your network and make new friends. When is rush? Our rush week is January 20th through January 25th.
